Our National Festivals
Festivals have great importance in our life. Festivals give our life an experience of fun and enjoyment. India is a country of diversity.
Many festivals are celebrated here throughout the year. Some of these festivals are religious, such as Deepawali, Holi, Janmashtami, Raksha Bandhan, Dussehra, Eid, Bakrid, Christmas, etc.
Some festivals are celebrated on the basis of the seasons, such as Vasant Panchami, Pongal, Baisakhi, Lohri, etc.
Apart from these, some festivals are celebrated by all the people of the entire nation, which are known as the ‘National Festivals’. National festivals celebrated in India are three- Independence Day, Republic Day, and Gandhi Jayanti.
Independence Day: Independence Day of India is celebrated on the fifteenth of August. 15th August is a national holiday in India. It is celebrated to commemorate its independence from British rule in 1947. On Independence Day the Prime Minister hoists the national flag at the Red Fort in Delhi, the capital of India, and delivers a speech from its ramparts. He salutes the National Flag.
Republic Day: In India, Republic Day is celebrated on 26th January. Republic Day commemorates the date on which the Constitution of India came into force replacing the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document of India on 26 January 1950. Republic Day is one of the three national holidays in India. In New Delhi, a special parade is held on this day. The President of India takes the salute.
Gandhi Jayanti: ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ is celebrated as the birthday of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Gandhiji, the ‘Father of Nation’ of India was born on 2nd October 1869. Hence Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated every year on the 2nd of October. Gandhi Jayanti is a National Holiday in India. This day is celebrated worldwide as the International Day of Non-Violence.
Our national festivals are celebrated with full enthusiasm in schools, colleges, offices, and housing societies all over the country. All the national festivals are national holidays. All the national festivals bring the youth of the country closer to the nation. Celebrating these national festivals every year instills a sense of patriotism among the people of our country and hence these national festivals are of great importance.
